An attractive Heritage Press edition in slipcase of Henryk Sienkiewicz's historical novel, set in Rome amongst the Christians during the reign of Nero. This work first appeared in installments in 1895 & 1896. Translated from the Polish by Jeremiah Curtin. With sepia-toned illustrations by Salvatore Fiume and an introduction by Harold Lamb. Sandglass leaflet laid in (New York, no. V: 25). --- In pale yellow cloth-covered boards with olive patterned designs to covers and spine; olive topstain. Titling in gilt on green spine block. Slipcase covered in brown paper. --- With scratches to spine title block and spine cloth is mildly discolored, else a tightly-bound, unmarked, sound copy. Slipcase with a few scratches and soiled spots but structurally in great shape. (NOTE: Due to the weight of this item, extra shipping charges may be requested for any shipment other than by USPS Media Mail in the US.) ; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; xiii, 525 pages .

I received this book as a gift for my 18th birthday in 1955. The title, age and not liking to read, I filed it. When I did pick it up in n my 30's and read it it became one of my favorite reads.
