Clean, unmarked pages. <br> In 1841 David Valentine began publishing an annual compilation of New York with historical information to show the citizenry the progress the city made each year. It was published under the title, Manual of the Corporation of the City of New York, a compendium of historical materials with illustrations, but it became known as Valentine's Manual. It included maps, lithographs and woodcuts, and contained many statistical tables, lists of social institutions, banks, schools, churches etc.
