Printed by Thomas and George Palmer, Philadelphia: ., 1805 pp. xxvi, (1), (1)-97 + Portrait Frontis. Offsetting onto title page. Lacks fly leaves. Paper beginning to brown but not brittle. Early XLib bookplate of the Library Company of Philadelphia, 'purchased from James Cox, Artist.' 4to. Original quarter leather over marbled covered boards. Leather very chipped and worn with loss. Hardbound. Good. Title continues: 'With a Sketch of the Life and Character of the Author' [signed by C.B.B. (i.e. Charles Brockden Brown - Linn's brother-inlaw)]. John Blair Linn (1777-1804) was pastor of the First Presbyterian congregation in Philadelphia. The poem was left unfinished and published the year after Linn's death at age 27 of tuberculosis. **The bookplate is interesting: The Library Company purchased, in 1832 in return for an annuity of $400 a year, the library of the eccentric artist James Cox.
