About This Item

Berkeley: Friends of the Bancroft Library, 1967. First edition. Tall octavo. xvii, [1], 67, [1] pp. Plus foldout map at rear and photographs of Death Valley by Ansel Adams. Publisher's olive cloth with gilt cover and spine lettering. A fine copy. The first publication of Nusbaumer's journal. He was with the ill-fated party that traversed Death Valley in 1849. That story was vividly detailed by William Lewis Manly in Death Valley in '49. The Bancroft Library obtained the Nusbaumer Journal in 1965 and view it second only in importance to that of Patrick Breen. Robert Becker accomplished the map.
