Tokyo: Evening Star, 1948. Large 8vo, pp. [4], 44; text in Japanese; text illustrations, pictorial paper wrappers; upper wrapper starting, text clean and sound, very good. With contributions from Ryuichi Yokoyama, Fumio Matsuyama, etc. VAN was a long-lived satirical magazine that lasted from 1946 to 1949. It published comics, caricatures, articles, fiction, and criticism. It served as a spring board for a number of authors and as an important voice of dissent against the Occupation Forces and post-war government.
