Moderate rubbing to boards, quite heavy to rear board. 12mm chip to leather on rear board. 6mm loss of leather at edges of corners of boards. Previous owner's signature "Thos Redpath 1846", and "Redpath" rubber stamp. Another early owner's signature "James Porteus / South Clutha / Rose Valley". Pencil marginalia on contents page. ; Second edition. xv, [1], 343, [1] pages + 32 pages advertisements dated October 1845. Blind-stamped green cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. Page dimensions: 170 x 104mm. Title continutes: "with the most approved method of cultivating them by natural and artificial means, and the best mode of cooking them; Alphabetically Arranged. Together with a description of the physical herbs in general use, &c. Also, some recollections of the life of Philip Miller, F.R.S. Gardener to the Worshipful Company of Apothecaries at Chelsea." By the author of "The Fruit Cultivator". The list of 68 vegetables and 25 physical herbs in the contents includes the "New Zealand Spinach". .
