During World War II there was a heavy demand for fresh Vegetables by servicemen stationed at tropical bases. Several successful gardens were established and maintained on these bases, but the supervisors reported many crop failures caused largely by improper selection of kinds and varieties for the prevailing Soil and climatic conditions. ; Puerto Rico.
