About This Item
Well researched and documented story of the love affair of Di Robilant's ancestor Andrea Memmo, one of the last great Venetian statesmen, and the English women Giustiniana Wynne. The novel, set in 18th century Venice, is based on a trove of letters that were found in the author's home on the Grand Canal by his father. Using the text of the letters and his understanding of Venetian history, Di Robilant tells the story of this affair and its consequences on both his ancestor and Giustiniana Wynne. The letters are beautifully written and gives the novel an authenticity unusual for this genre of literature.
