Book Condition: Very Good; waviness to the FFFP from bookplate application; small moisture stain on bottom edge of front board. DJ: Very Good; NOT Price Clipped (30s net); suntoned spine; missing small piece at head, light wear to upper tips; closed tear to top of rear panel. Green cloth boards and spine with bright black lettering on the spine. Pictorial endpapers. 69 pp 8vo. Few writers have so full a knowledge of Venice, her history and architecture, her daily life, as the author, who lived there for many years. Here his haunting and evocative text supports Piper's spirited lithographs in a joint work which will give the deepest satisfaction to all who love Venice, the mother of cities, and are not afraid to see her with contemporary eyes. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.

Unclipped dust-jacket, very clean and tidy, just a little browned along the spine with a couple of closed tears which are near-invisible, it having been placed in a clear removable protective cover. Book bound in black cloth with an imprinted architectural Piper decoration on the front, title in gilt on the spine, clean shiny and square. Hinge firm, no inscriptions, closed page edges browned. Tape placed neatly along inside edge of end papers, front and back. Withdrawn library stamp to the verso of the publisher page. Thereafter pages are smooth and clean abundantly illustrated by John Piper.
