The dust jacket has been severely traumatised, and has lost the head of the spine, along with tears, and a tear of the rear fold over creases that is almost half its length. Apart from some handling marks to the front edge of the text block, the book is showing no damage. Illustrated with colour plates, black-and-white plates, and some reproductions of documents, this book is a survey of Venetian art as a reflection of Venetian life throughout the triumphant history of the seafaring republic. The book's theme is threefold – art, power and prestige.
