Alexander's first book, issued as Callaloo Poetry Series, Number 9. Alexander was selected by President Barack Obama to read a poem at his inauguration, making her only the fourth "Inaugural poet," following Robert Frost, Maya Angelou and Miller Williams. She is currently president of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. An excellent association.
