Grundler and engraved by Sysang and general title page. Half-title bound before p. 1. Second part preceded by half-title. Folio (13-3/4" x 8-1/2"). Contemporary paneled vellum prize binding, central gilt coat of arms of Amsterdam with rolled gilt border and corner pieces, gilt-edged raised bands to spine with gilt coats of arms to compartments, fragments of silk ties to outer boards, edges speckled. Light rubbing and soiling to boards, which are slightly bowed, light creasing to spine ends, small pencil mark to front pastedown and fragment of paper label to front free endpaper. General title page printed in red and black, occasional attractive engraved copperplate and woodcut head-pieces, tail-pieces and initials. Moderate toning to interior, slightly lighter or heavier in places, light foxing, light soiling in a few places, trimming to head of leaf A1 (pp. 1-2) just catching copperplate head-piece, text not affected. Widely respected, he was appointed president of the Parliament of Paris in 1588. In 1591, however, he was hanged by The Sixteen, a group of insurgents who captured Paris in a bizarre coup.
