About This Item

1956. WIGHT, Frederick. VERGE OF GLORY. NY: Harcourt, Brace and Company, [1956]. 8vo., 8vo., green cloth in dust jacket; 311 pages. First Edition. A dramatic novel of Modigliani and Bohemian Paris written by an art professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Signed presentation from Wight on the front endpaper: To Gov- with great expectations from one to art [week?]. F.S.W." With another smaller presentation in a darker ink and in an unknown hand above the one from Wight on the same page. Tipped to the front pastedown is an envelope addressed from Wight to Lieut. Gouverneur Mosher in Washington, DC. In it is a typed letter signed, dated March 20, 1957 from Wight thanking him for his letter, discussing relatives, Washington, DC, Cape Cod, and other chatty stuff. "I wonder if you are off to Japan. It sounds like a pleasant change of duty." Very Good; some edgewear (small triangular chip lower edge rear panel; price-clipped) d/j. $75.00.
