About This Item
Harmondsworth, UK: Penguin Books, 1957. Reprint of 1960 . Soft cover. Good/None as Issued. Text/Near New showing discoloration. Softcover/Good; strong but shelfworn w/edge rubs & surface creasing, and light soiling to text edges. Cover Art: Ian Carmichael as Bertie Wooster, BBC "The World of Wooster" series. Merry excursions into pompous upper class realms of British aristocracy a century past with rummy characters. 11 episodic adventures of the young, wealthy, idle and rather clueless Londoner Bertie Wooster and his most competent valet Jeeves. A series begun by P.G. Wodehouse (1881 - 1975) 1915; this collection first published in book form 1934. "Jeeves" --- name Reginald --- is a formal entry in the Oxford Dictionary to describe the quintessential nature of a valet; a valet being one responsible for serving an individual, while butlers manage an entire household including all other servants. Among multiple literary awards. Wodehouse received the 1936 Mark Twain Prize for "having made an outstanding and lasting contribution to the happiness of the world". Good copy w/a tired softcover.
