About This Item

E Rutherford, New Jersey, U.S.A.: Prentice Hall Press, 2000. First edition. Review Born in Shanghai and educated at the London School of Economics and Harvard Business School, venture-capital investment manager Michael Tang has been shaped by both the legends of his native land and the realities of his chosen world. In A Victor's Reflections, he presents dozens of legends along with succinct commentary (on how they apply to our modern-day business life) that are based upon realities. Tang offers a slight twist on the tendency in the current crop of books to link management advice with the activities of a specific leader or era by expanding his scope to the entire roster of great Chinese figures, including Confucius, sixth-century scholar Yen Chi-tui, the Art of War's Sun Tzu, third-century ruler Tsao Tsao, and many others. In sections discussing issues ranging from ethics and human resources to sexual harassment and "the art of living," Tang presents brief, contemporary fables that illuminate the classic precepts around which the Chinese have rallied for thousands of years. With morals like "One cannot lead without loyalty" and "A symbol can be a powerful management tool," the stories, and Tang's assessments, are both enjoyable and instructive. --Howard Rothman --This text refers to the Hardcover edition. About the Author Michael Tang was born in Shanghai and majored in English Language and Literature at East China Teacher's University. He later went to Britain to study and graduated with honors from the London School of Economics. In 1983, he entered Harvard Business School and graduated in 1985 as the first Harvard MBA from mainland China since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949. He divides his time between homes in NewYork City and Shanghai, managing venture capital investment. Corners of 2 pages turned down, otherwise in very nice condition.. First Edition.. Soft Cover.
