Madrid, Antonio Marin, 1757. With engr. portrait of Maria- Anna by Josef Flipart. 12 unn. leaves (incl. title), 282 pp. 8vo. Contemp. red morocco, wide border around sides formed of 2 different flower stamps, spine richly gilt, e.g., gilt heraldic supralibros with the arms of Maria-Barbara of Portugal, Queen of Spain. Madrid, Antonio Marin, 1757. First edition in Castellan of a biography of Maria-Anna of Austria (1683-1754), Queen of Portugal, daughter of Emperor Leopold I of Austria. She was married to King John V (the Magnanimous) of Portugal, whose reign was marked by a long period of peace. Written in Latin by the Jesuit Joseph Ritter (1698-1761), her confessor, the work was initially published in Latin by Trattner in Vienna in 1756. This biography was commissioned by her daughter Maria-Barbara of Portugal (1711-1798), married to Ferdinand VI, King of Spain, to whom it is dedicated, and whose arms adorn the binding.- Fine typography, printed on heavy stock, in a beautiful binding. - Sommervogel VI, 1877; Palau 269578.
