About This Item
Univ of New Mexico Press, 1990. Soft cover. Near Fine. Illustrated paperback cover, octavo. xxvi,270 pages. Edited, with an introduction by Edward N.S. Lorusso. Written and self published by McAlmon's own Contact Press in Paris, 1924, where it languished and was forgotten for over sixty years. A semi-autobiographical telling of small town life in North Dakota. "McAlmon's version of small-town American life is dark and cynical....the author's matter-of-fact treatment of alcoholism, sex, snobbrery, hypocrisy and the class system, lend this work the documentary quality of what are now called non-fiction novels." [rear wrap].
