Inscribed to fellow artist, Will Barnet, the author's former teacher. An extended voyage up the Tanana and Yukon rivers with visits to Native American villages en route: New Minto, Galena, Koyukuk, Fort Yukon, Nenana, Kaltag, Rampart. Fejes records the life of the Athabaskans, past and present, in the villagers' own words and in bw drawings.The villagers also discuss their concerns for the future, including staying true to ancestral ways or adopting urban values. An enlightening, timeless story.
