Playing paperback binding with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. A series of essays from this author first published in 1881. Creasing of the book corners with rubbing of the book edges and panels. Faint foxing and sunning to the book panels with noticeable sunning to the back strip. Tanning of the text block edges and pages and there are a few foxing spots to both text block edges and pages. Previous owners name to the top edge of the half title page. Some staining to the top edge of the half title page through to page 23. . Size: 12 mo (standard paperback). 157, [3 – further titles on publishing house] pages,. Synopsis
With the single exception of Falstaff, all Shakespeare's characters are what we call marrying men. Mercutio, as he was own cousin to Benedick and Biron, would have come to the same end in the long run. Even Iago had a wife, and, what is far stranger, he was jealous. People like Jacques and the Fool in LEAR, although we can hardly imagine they would ever marry, kept single out of a cynical humour or for a broken heart, and not, as we do nowadays, from a spirit of incredulity and preference for the single state.
