About This Item
Henry O. Studley (1838–1925) was a New England organ and piano maker, carpenter and stonemason who built a very famous mahogany cabinet for 250 of his tools. His cabinet and workbench are privately owned and this book is the only way of seeing Studley's masterpiece.
This book is the first in-depth examination of one of the most beautiful woodworking tool chests ever constructed and presents the first-ever biography of Studley. It explains how be built it, how it works, and why he made it in the first place. It includes measurements, details and photographs of all the tools in the cabinet. Every swinging frame, hinged panel and nook of this three-dimensional, multi-layered sculpture has been analyzed so you can understand how it folds in on itself like a giant piece of mahogany origami.
Second printing, 204 pages, full of beautiful photography and on fine paper. The book is heavy--over 2 lbs. Pages 38 and 39 somehow got stuck together and have a little mark on them as a result. There is a slight wave to the top corner of the back pages. Otherwise perfect condition.
