Hardcover. 1888 , Hardcover in brown calf's leather on the spine and ivory color paper with gilt tooling on the spine and red illustration on the front board , all by Sarah Wyman Whitman ( 1842 - 1904 ) A renowned book artist and one of the most important binding designers during the golden age of illustration and publishers use of decorative trade bindings one of the Arts & Craft book binders. The designs are also on the end pages . This very scarce copy has 10 artist's proofs engraved in wood and 3 fac-simile reproduction of artist drawings in the text. The ten artist are : J.W. ALAEXANDER , BRUCE CRANE , F.W. FREER , R.SWAIN GIFFORD, ALFRED KAPPES , H.S. MOWBRAY , WALTER SHIRLAW , and F. HOPKINSON SMITH. Condition : Very Fine on the book , plain paper dust jacket good with spits at the folds . Clam boxfor the book is in very good condition with edge ware rubs and repair at two corners. Some light foxing at the two first pages . A very scarce complete edition of the book and very hard to find in any condition . Size: Folio - over 12 - 15" tall.
