Berlin, Insel, 1903. Double-spread frontispiece and title, decorative initials, and tail-piece designed by Heinrich Vogeler. 337 pp.; 308 pp. 8vo. Contemp. three-quarter cloth with, spine labels (somewhat faded), orig. wrappers designed by Vogeler bound in. Berlin, Insel, 1903. First edition. 2000 copies were printed on Insel laid paper. Ricarda Huch's (1864-1947) second novel, with its title alluding to Böcklin's famous painting, is a thematical continuation of her first novel "Erinnerungen von Ludolf Ursleu dem Jüngeren" (1893); from 1930 onwards, it bears the title "Michael Unger".
