Paris: Simon Benard, 1691. Early Edition. Hardcover (Vellum). Good Condition. Early full vellum, quite soiled, old spine label at base, inner hinge cracked. Light age toning and foxing, title and a few early leaves slightly chipped at the edges. (16), 308pp with in text illustrations. Plate of a scholar with a compass pasted to the rear endpaper. A soaring satire of Descartes' ideas (and Descartes himself, freed from matter by an act of will) and a very early interplanetary work of fiction. The first edition was the previous year in Paris - this is the second Paris edition. It spawned a sequel as well as a popular translation into English. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1.
