Ward was a member of Henry Morton Stanley's Emin Pasha Relief Expedition who became a close friend of Roger Casement while they were working in the Congo Free State. Hardcover. No dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Clean, unmarked pages. 1st English ed., London: W. Heinemann, 1910. <br><br> Provenance: From the library of Robert Smith Simpson. Simpson was a noted career foreign service officer in the US State Department and professor at the Edward Walsh school of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Simpson was the American Consulate General in Lourenco Marques [Maputo], Mozambique. Originally from the library of Charles H. Stauffacher, a noted Methodist missionary to Portuguese East Africa; Inhambane, Mozambique. Stauffacher was a bishop of the United Methodists.
