Translator's foreword, acknowledgments, historical background, and a biographical note in first volume. Boards and spine undamaged and unblemished. Internally unmarked. Clean, as new copies of this two volume reprint of the original 1987 set. The translation of a condensed history of Dumont d'Urville's two major voyages of discovery to the South Pacific omitting all the scientific results and d'Urville's search for relics of the la Perouse expedition at Vanikoro. 1987
