Jacket protected in archival sleeve. 10 full pages of b/w historic photos.The story of the Voyage of the S. S. St. Louis which departed Hamburg, Germany, May 13, 1939. one of the last ships to leave Germany before WW II erupted. There were 937 Jews on board, many of whom had already been in concentration camps--they believed they had bought visas to Cuba. Cube refused entry. The U.S. refused entry--and on June 6, they head back to Germany to await their fate. Bound in full black cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. Trace wear to corner tips, top edge foxed, spine head and heel cloth compressed. Tight and solid binding. Internals in Fine Condition. Jacket is white with red and black lettering and photographic illustrations, corners lightly worn, spine head and heel chipped. 317 pages. Bibliography. 9.5 x 6.25 inches. 1974, Stein & Day, New York.
