New Haven: H. Mansfield, 1848. Ninth Edition. Cloth. Very good. Ninth edition of A Voyage Round the World by Fitch W. Taylor.. Thick octavo, [two volumes in one], 317pp, [1]; [332pp], [2pp ads]. Original cloth, gilt stamped and blind stamped designs to covers and spine. New endpapers. Title in gilt on spine. Stated "Ninth Edition" on title page. Small tears, chips, and bumps to binding, light rubbing to gilt. Light foxing throughout, toning to title page and frontispiece, some wear to gutters, a very good example. Previous ownership inscription on the front flyleaf. Features a frontispiece at the front of each volume, plus one hand-colored plate of "The Present Emperor Of China." Senior Chaplain of the U.S. Navy, Fitch W. Taylor (1803-1865) was first a minister for the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Maryland. During his twenty-four years of service in the U.S. Navy, Taylor circumnavigated the globe aboard the USS Columbia, one of the first U.S. naval ships to make such a voyage.
