About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. There have been many stories and legends told about the famous ship known as the Bounty and the mutiny that left William Bligh adrift on the open sea with a few of his men, no map and limited food and water resources. This real account of the happenings aboard the ship and the amazing story of survival told in Bligh?s own words is an inspiring tale of adventure and endurance that surpasses even the amazing happenings recounted in most fictional books.

Bligh?s story begins as he was given the assignment to take bread-fruit to the West Indies from Tofoa, in Tahiti. While the journey seems straightforward, it is also a long one, and soon enough trouble arose. Blight found himself victim of his own men, as a mutiny led by Fletcher Christian led to the capture of Bligh and several officers loyal to him. The men were set adrift on board a small 23-foot boat in the scorching sunlight with nothing but a few supplies. Bligh, however, using his outstanding leadership skills and ingenuity, guided the men to safe harbor on the 47-day journey to Java.

Covering more than 3,000 nautical miles, Bligh achieved what seemed impossible. However, with many stories arising over the following two centuries, the tale of the mutiny of the Bounty had been distorted over time, and many details were omitted.

Perhaps the greatest value offered by A Voyage to the South Sea is not only that was it written in the genuine words of William Bligh himself, but that it is a historically and geographically accurate firsthand account presented by Bligh. It outlines both the mutiny and how it occurred, and every one of the near fatal days that the brave and diligent men spent aboard the small vessel adrift on the ocean waves.
