About This Item

Spokane: Arthur H. Clark Co, 1991. First Edition. Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Fine/Fine. 8vo. Pp. 260. Frontis. black & white reproductions of commander portraits. Illustrated with an additional eleven black & white photo reproductions and six maps. Northwest Historical Series XVI. With index. Black cloth, titles stamped in gilt on the spine: crisp and square, binding tight. In the two color photo illustrated dust jacket on textured paper: equally well-preserved. Please note: the third photo suggests discoloration in the dust jacket. That evinces the photographer's (mine!) shortcomings; in fact there is no variation in color. The dust jacket is nearly As New. From the dust jacket: "The Sutil and Mexicana sailed along the coast of the Pacific Northwest in 1792, their stated mission to put to rest the persistent rumors of the mythical strait connecting the Pacific and Atlantic in the neighborhood of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the present-day border of Canada and the United States." As told by the explorers themselves. One of 1,082 copies. CLARK & BRUNET, 138, which notes, "this translation varies significantly from the 1802 Spanish publication, and the 1930 translation by Cecil Jane."

Dust jacket is now preserved in a removable clear archival sleeve.
