New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 2001. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. This is a first printing of the first edition, with an intact number line. The interior of the book is crisp and fresh, without signs of previous use. The cloth covers are clean and bright, with minor edgewear along the bottom edge. The gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is also in excellent condition, with just a touch of wear at tips and corners. The attached scan should give a better idea of condition. The jacket is now in protective mylar.
Synopsis
The Voyages of Doctor Dolittle was the second of Hugh Lofting's Doctor Dolittle books to be published, coming out in 1922. It is nearly four times longer than its predecessor and the writing style is pitched at a more mature audience. The scope of the novel is vast; it is divided into six parts and the illustrations are also more sophisticated. It won the Newbery Medal for 1923. The original edition contains several derogatory terms for Africans that are removed from modern editions.
