The story was written in 1909 & finally published, posthumously in 1944; printed by Thomas Todd on Beacon Hill on Boston and illustrated with the woodcuts of J. J. Lankes. Wag-by-Wall is a Christmas tale of Sally Benson and her little thatched cottage & wag-by-wall, her handsome clock. 12m0. Grey linen with pastedown illustration of the cottage on front board. Red floral patterned endpapers. Title page in red and black; tipped in (taped in, in this copy) frontispiece portrait of an elderly Beatrix Potter with a young girl and her dog. No dust jacket. Published by the This homely Christmas story was first published in the HORN BOOK magazine a few months before the author's death. It is published here for the first time in book form. Former owner's stamp on endpapers: "H. W. Silsby 3rdm Annandale, Virginia"
