First Black Sparrow edition, originally printed in 1938. Fante's first novel, an autobiographical story of a youth growing up in an Italian-American community on the West Coast. It was Fante's first novel and according to his biography the source for all the work he was to publish in the future. Fante novel was turned into a screen play for the movie staring Joe Montegna and Faye Dunaway.
