London: George Virtue, 1844. First edition. Hardcover. poor to g. Quarto. (10) 224 (8)pp. Original color illustrated blue paper-covered boards with black lettering on cover. Frontispiece steel engraving with tissue guard. Title page steel engraving. Foreword: "...a clear, connected, and accurate view of the City, by gradually tracing its progress from the earliest period of authentic history, restoring its past appearance by careful study of existing data, and exhibiting its present condition, in a series of Views 'chosen with express reference to historical illustration,' and in which the 'local character' should be the only object, and where, at every step, the past and present should be compared." Illustrated with 19 full page steel engravings , including one fold out map, and numerous in-text illustrations and tables. List of illustrations at front and eight pages of valuable publications at rear. Binding rubbed with some staining and chips along edges and corners. Spine missing though front and back cover still attached to binding, back only at bottom. Most steel engravings with foxing, some missing tissue guards. Binding in overall poor, interior in fair to good condition.
