Preface and introduction by editor, three appendices, people and places and index. Photographic end pages, showing a selection of letters from the Duke and Duchess. Between pages 64 and 65 there are 32 pages of back and white photography. 1/4 navy blue coloured cloth covered back strip with gilt coloured titles. 3/4 grey coloured boards. Photographic dustwrapper with dark blue coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. In this book the intimate letters between Wallis Simpson, and Edward, Prince of Wales, later to become Prince Edward VIII. In the letters the developing relationship is exposed, why Edward found this American divorcee attractive; how Wallis tried to stop the abdication; and, what really transpired between the ex-king and his family, to name but a few highlights. The letters start from the first moment of meeting to their marriage in 1937 at the Château de Candé. Rubbing of the lower book edges with bumping of the top corners. Softening of the back strip with remainder stamp to the lower text edge. Handling marks to the book panels with light tanning of the text block edges. Staining to the free front end page. Minor creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels. Patchy sunning of the jacket, particularly noticeable to the back strip.
