About This Item
1935. First Edition. (Racine, Wisconsin: Whitman Publishing Company 1935). First US Edition. Softcover. Stiff wrappers (original staples still present). Sixteen pages printed on linen-like paper in full colour throughout with illustrations by the Staff of the Walt Disney Studios. This Comic Book is recognised to be the first time that Donald Duck (still with his elongated bill) was the main character in his own story. Mickey Mouse's nephews show Uncle Donald Duck a few tricks about diving and at the same time enjoy a pleasant swim themselves. 8 leaves, the outer forming the wrappers, colour illustrations. A very good copy with a short closed edge tear (to the bottom edge) and a repaired (1" x 1") edge chip to the right hand edge of the front cover neatly repaired on the verso with filmoplast (following sympathetic removal of an old tape repair). Interior clean and unmarked. Slim folio. A very good copy of a scarce early Disney work. Whitman number 978. Photographs/scans available upon request.
