Front inner hinge is cracked, rear inner hinge is partially cracked. Book is slightly cocked. There are several instances of light pencil underlining and marginal lines. Brown spots on corner of one plate and adjacent pages. Pages have slightly browned edges. Owner's name written on half-title page. ; Folded map present. .

London: John Murray, 1896. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Green cloth with black and gilt decoration to the fornt board; gilt lettering to the spine. Illustrated throughout with black and white plates, and there is a folding map to the rear. Some light rubbing to the cloth at the outer extremities of the boards and the spine; outer page edges a little browned. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Rear hinge is just cracked but the binding is sound.

Hogarth (1862–1927) was Keeper of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford from 1909 until his death in 1927. Prior to that he carried out excaviations in Cyprus, Crete, Egypt, Syria, Melos, and Ephesus.
