About This Item
London, Thames and Hudson, 1973. 8vo. 464 pp. Inserted, a sheet of paper. A few marginal notes in pencil. Publ. cloth, with slightly worn dustwrapper. Owner’s signature. Sir Sacheverell Sitwell (1897–1988) was an English writer and art and music critic. This book is a self-portrait of the author, but not a straightforward biography. It is ”a picture of the workings of a mind taking pleasure from the contemporary world”. Calling on his own experiences, the writer paints both the bright colours of the world and the darker mysteries which have attracted him.
