Some wear/rubbing to spine ends, ding to bottom rear corners and some marks to cloth. Interior clean and binding solid. Slipcase completely split at three edges with bumped corners, marks and tape shadows, but still holding together - Poor.

Scuffing along the spine from sliding in and out of the slipcase. No creases along the spine. Translation by Rosemary Edmonds. Just a little shelfwear at the corners. This 2 volume leather bound used set is in good condition. The pages are clean and crisp. The gold guilt is worn on the lower edges of the pages for both volumes. The binding is tight. The boards are clean inside and out. The spine is neat.

NY: Heritage Press; (1938). Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. Original Heritage Press edition, two volumes, near fine with no dust jacket, and in a very good slipcase. Owner's names, location, and date on front endpaper of both volumes. Brick colored cloth is just slightly sunned on the spine; both books tight and square with unbroken hinges. The slipcase is still holding together, but a couple of the seams are partially split. From the title page: "The translation from the Russian by Louise & Aylmer Maude revised by Mr. & Mrs. Maude with a special Introduction by them; illustrated with reproductions of the famous nineteenth century paintings by Vassily Verestchagin, and numerous pen drawings made for this edition by Fritz Eichenberg. Volume 1 is 815 pages; volume 2 is 857 pages.

Bound in publisher's red cloth with lithograph on front board, illustrated with reproductions of the Famous 19th Century paintings by Vassily Verestchagin and numerous pen drawings made for this special edition by Fritz Eichenberg. The two volumes in this Edition are separated with a brownish card board announcing the title as well as the Volume. One of the most famous and sought-after editions of the Tolstoy masterpiece. Book is fine and unmarked, with bright, unchipped spine title. The tan slipcase is very good, clean and tight, with no chips and with only minor rubbing to small areas of the entry square. A splendid copy.
