About This Item

Tokyo: Mokujisha, 1975. first edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/very good. Tokyo: Mokujisha, 1975. Very Good +/very good. Abe Eishiro (1902-84) was the first Japanese papermaker to be designated as a national living treasure. Abe created Izumo Mingeishi (folk-craft paper from the local area) and established Izumo Washi (Japanese paper in the local style) as a traditional craft technique. Two examples here are by Abe, one by Ichibei Iwano (another national living treasure artist). The other 57 samples are by other artists. 77 photographs of paper-making, text by Eishiro Abe. Hand caligraphy (full page) by Abe, the Japanese character MICHI1 "the road" with his signature below. Limited to 300 copies. Book is VG+: full brown cloth with a tiny stain on bottom of text block (not affecting contents), just a touch of fading at the edges of the cloth, and a little wave action in the bottom of textblock (does not affect contents). Traditonal folding protective case, orange cloth with label, basic VG, no splits but one solid corner knock (did not affect the book). and a couple of worn spots. An excellent book on paper by the great EISHIRO ABE.
