About This Item

Garden City, New York,: Crime Club Doubleday, 1935. 1st edition, so stated. The book has been married to a Grosset and Dunlap dust jacket. Publishers black cloth with green lettering at spine and the familiar "gun-man" logo at front cover. Appears as if someone attempted to clean the cloth thus streaking it both at front an rear covers. Book is tight with a slight lean. Dust jacket shows some wear at edges , a couple of chips out, lightly soiled. Van Wyck Mason seems to be at the top of his game, here. Not only does he employ an intriguing espionage story, but he also works in a couple of complex murder mysteries whose solutions keep things on edge until almost the very end. Mason published this mystery about stolen US military secrets, foreign agents, and American traitors situated even in the US Senate. [A fact that as late s 1935 the US had absolutely NO LAW punishing peace-time espionage]. North's assignment is to help assure the passage of a counter-espionage bill through the Senate. Opposing the bill are a ring of international agents and the pacifist press.. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. Book.
