About This Item
New York: Atheneum, 1962. First Edition. Covers lightly rubbed, with a touch of wear to spine-ends and some spotting to the inside covers. 8vo, 53pp, perfect-bound in printed wrappers. A nice association copy, inscribed on the half-title page, incorporating the printed title: "Overlooking [Water Street] there is always a little yellow & white room for Donald and Mary. Make tracks! Love from Jimmy, 1962." The recipients were the writer and specialist on Japanese culture Donald Richie and his then-wife, Mary Evans. Laid in are: an autograph postcard, jointly written and signed by Donald Richie and James Merrill and sent to Mary from Japan in 1963, and a much later typed letter signed by Richie to Mary (2000) mentioning Merrill as well as JD McClatchy & Chip Kidd, John Ashbery, and Claude Fredericks, as well as sending her this book, which he'd discovered among his things.
