About This Item

The hearings were the result of a petition filed by Attorney General Herbert Brownell to proscribe the Labor Youth League under the McCarran Act. The LYL was founded in 1949 under the aegis of the Communist Party and was essentially a continuation of American Youth for Democracy. It dissolved in 1956.
