About This Item

Simon & Schuster New York, 1962. First Edition. Hardcover. VG+/--. 8 1/2 x 5 3/4 x 1 1/8. NON SMOKING STORE. My listing INCLUDES PHOTO OF ACTUAL BOOK for sale. Book VERY GOOD PLUS. No dust jacket issued, or is missing. Boards are grey leatherette with black lettering. Very small creases at top and bottom of spine, other than that virtually no wear showing on covers/spine. Corners straight. Sewn binding, upper edges of pages are red, as issued, not faded. Back end papers show sky and rocket going up. Front end papers show launch towers and rocket just launched. Possibly a very slight sag in book interior, as bottom page corner tips have touched the shelf in a size about 1/8 inch x 1/8. Front board and first free end page have been overzealously opened, and the paper is torn along the spine, revealing the sewn backing, which makes the spine a bit looser from the book, but the sewn cloth backing is not cut or torn, and the cover is not tearing away from the book. It’s barely noticeable but for the small 1/8 inch gap in the centre of he colour photo on the end pages, and the slight looseness of the cover. Rag edge pages. 6 sections of Black/white photo plates (matte finish). Someone wrote “Beginning in 1959, NASA began a series of rocket tests with the goal of putting a man in space. Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet pilot, beat Alan Shepard into space by about three weeks in the spring of 1961. By 1963, six of the seven American astronauts had orbited the earth. We Seven, a book by the Mercury program astronauts, is one of the most popular books on the subject.

Synopsis

âÈò Published for the fiftieth anniversary of the Mercury program: Project Mercury ran from 1959 through 1963, put the first American in space, and defined NASAâÈçs manned space flights to come, from Gemini through Apollo. In We Seven , first published in 1962, the astronauts take readers behind the scenes of this pioneering programâÈ'even into the space capsules themselves. âÈò Fascinating firsthand accounts: The astronauts describe the exhilarating launches, hair-raising challenges, and incredible successes of Project MercuryâÈ'from breaking through the earthâÈçs atmosphere to panicking when a hatch blows. But Project Mercury was more than the heroism of individual missions. In We Seven , AmericaâÈçs original astronauts share with usâÈ'as only they canâÈ'the hopes and dreams of the U.S. at the dawn of a new era.

WILLOWBAY BOOKS

THERE IS NO COVID-19 IN MY STORE AND MY SALES ARE ONLINE ONLY. IMPORTANT NOTE RE POSTAGE: I love books and most of my books are NEW or LIKE NEW. I'm very careful in describing my books accurately and I've done so to the best of my ability using the IOBA Book Condition guidelines. All items are from a smoke-free, clean, dry environment. My books are from a large private collection, very well taken care of and rarely handled. All descriptions and photos are of the actual books I'm selling. I'm happy to answer any questions regarding my books, just ask. IMPORTANT RE POSTAGE: I'm in Canada so books to the USA/Other Countries are International shipments and may be delayed by CUSTOMS and/or HOMELAND SECURITY. I'm using the Biblio standard postage matrix, which gives average postage fees, therefore sometimes for an OVERSIZE or LARGE heavy book or expensive book, the postage may be too low and may require extra charges. If I know this in advance, I will notify the buyer before the order is processed.

This is not a huge book warehouse, it is a small one-owner store run by a true book lover. POSSIBLE DELAYS: I'm elderly and disabled and while this usually does not cause a delay in order processing, it sometimes may cause a small delay for me to get to the post office. Thanks for your understanding. I will always email you with the date your package was shipped, and shipping method used.

I'm sure you'll enjoy looking through my books, and purchasing from WILLOWBAY BOOKS. Thanks. Ms. Bronwen Kathy Williams, Ontario, Canada.
