About This Item
NY: Appleton, 1888. First US Edn. 8vo, pp. 403 + adv. Green cloth stamped in black and gilt, a fine copy. See Wolff 4220; Sadleir 1462 (for the English editions). Bayly (1857-1903) combined her liberal Unitarian background with a powerful storytelling technique in this enormously successful sequel to her Donovan (1882), a story of religious intolerance which was losely based on the story of liberal politician Charles Bradlaugh.
