Leipzig: Weidmannísche Buchhandlung, 1852. Third Edition. The first two volumes contain Chamissoís account of the first circumnavigation of Otto Von Kotzebue, 1815-18, and the important discoveries made by the expedition in the Pacific, on the Northwest coast, and in the Bering Sea. As the official botanist of the expedition, Chamisso described a number of new species found in what is now the San Francisco Bay area, including the California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica) which Chamisso named after Johann Friedrich von Eschscholtz, the entomologist on board the Rurik.
