Boston: Little, Brown and Company, 1929. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 1st Printing FIRST PRINTING of First Edition. Original navy cloth, gilt decoration cover, gilt lettering spine. The covers have some tiny spotting, smudge mark lower front cover, usual browning of EPs, foxing in margins of some pages at front and rear, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages, tide-line on frontispiece which seems to be a common condition for this book, rear EP hinge repaired with binder's cloth tape, no other restorations. The book measures 258mm tall x 153mm, and has 376 pages, 175 b/w photos, 4 maps, 1 chart, index. Exploration Tibet and then in Garhwal and Ladakh in 1905 with Longstaff in the vicinity of Mt Kailas. Longstaff made a serious attempt to climb Gurla Mandhata reaching 7000m. Just prior to joining Sherring (but described here by Sherring & with good photos from Longstaff) he also attempted the East Peak of Nanda Devi, Nanda Kot, and was the first to view the Inner Sanctuary after making the first ascent of Longstaff's Col.
