Memorial volume, dedicated to the "stalwart, youthful-spirited Americans" who lay claim to lands between the the Mississippi and the Pacific sea. Many years in the preparation, author, editor and professor of English at Univ of Utah and New York Univ, Howard Roscoe Driggs (1873 - 1963) long collected first-hand accounts of experiences of the pioneer trails of the west, and worked closely with artist and photographer William Henry Jackson(1843-1942) whose 40 color plates of watercolors augment the narrative. Fine less dust jacket.
