Garden City NY: Doubleday Doran & Co, 1929. First Edition. 321p octavo, A very good copy in black and yellow cloth. Inscribed in french on the front fly leaf "Pour la Loula Cherie, pour la rappeller son enforce et son Papa. Paul Ayres Rockwell 19 Novembre 1976" (his mother Loula Rockwell) Rockwell (1885-1989) volunteered to fight for France in the coming war (World War 1) with his brother Kiffin. They both ended up in the American Squad in Company 2 of the French Aviation Servive the American contingent known as "Lafayette Escadrille. The Esdcadri;;e's first victory was scored by Kiffin Rockwell on May 18, 1916, but was killed on Sept 23, 1916.
