About This Item
Crosby & Ainsworth, 1868 A nice example of this classic in beveled dark Green cloth bds., 403 illustrated pages & 60 etchings. Other than a name and date, July 28, 1875., the tome remains NF, clean and free of any major defects (a few minor wear mks and tiny spine end chips, lower corners a touch worn through, all else VG+ to NF. A quite nice looking example with clean text and illustrations. NOTE: Bent's on page 2. Bent stated that this ("although written more than 50 years ago") was "still the best book about the White Mountains". Thomas Starr King's portrait consequently adorns Bent's Guide as Frontispiece. PS, If you do not already have a copy of Bent's Bibliography of the White Mountains..... you should get one! PUBLISHING NOTES: This was publish in first edition (First Printing) in North Conway, NH and Boston by Andrews, some bear both town names, The second printing dropped No. Conway to read just Boston. In 1960 Crosby & Nichols took possession of the publishing rights and put out several more printings. In 1865/6 (Second Edition) it changed again to Crosby & Ainsworth and then to Woolworth, Ainsworth & Company in 1869. In 1870 the much larger company of Hurd & Houghton (Cambridge) took over. After that I have lost track.
