In contemporary paneled calf, rebacked, retaining original red-morocco title label. Extremities rubbed, hinges cracked, occasional minor foxing. Bookplate of the physician Otto Orren Fisher.
Sydenham (1624-1689) made great strides in medical science, and his Observationes Medicae became a standard textbook of medicine for two centuries after his death. The topics in this wide-ranging text include therapies for various fevers, plague, and St. Vitus's Dance (now called Sydenham's chorea). He also promoted laudanum for relief from pain.
A translation of Sydenham's "Methodus curandi febres," first published in 1696.
